New York City Trip - Day 1
We had an amazing Spring Break trip to New York City a few weeks ago - and it was our very first trip since our girlie was diagnosed with Celiac Disease! We were unsure of how it would go but with LOTS of research and recommendations, we were able to enjoy ourselves and make sure our girlie was safe and gluten free.
Our first day, we arrived around lunchtime and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. One of the closest restaurants to our hotel that I read had gluten free offerings was the Hard Rock Cafe. Our girlie ordered the kids cheeseburger with a gluten free bun and mashed potatoes (since the fries weren’t fried separately). She was really excited about the bun and said how good it was, however, by the time we were done with the meal, she ate some of the burger with no bun. It sounded like the bun was good, just not great. She also liked the mashed potatoes but wasn’t a fan of the potato skins, so this was only so-so for her. She did eat a lot of it and so we felt like this first meal in NYC was a good one overall.
We then were able to grab a reservation at the Jellycat Diner at FAO Schwarz. Our girlie was SO excited for this experience and it may have been one of her favorite parts of the trip! It was a really cute and fun thing to do if you have little ones. She ended up with a stuffed pancake which is adorable! TIP: We didn’t have a reservation before we came. I tried multiple times to find one with no luck. I happened to look again when we landed at the airport, and luckily I saw an opening a few hours later. Definitely keep trying while you’re on your trip and hopefully you’ll get a last minute cancellation! We also went on a Saturday because that’s when we found an opening. I would recommend when booking to try to do this on a weekday. It was packed with so many people that we could barely move in the entire store. Overall, we had a blast, though, and highly recommend this experience!
After walking around and exploring and a carriage ride in Central Park, we were ready for dinner. We tried Schnipper’s for their gluten free chicken fingers and fries. They looked delicious and at first our girlie really liked them. After eating them for a bit, she ended up telling us that she wasn’t a fan of them. The rest of us also didn’t love what we ordered. I know a lot of gluten free people love this place, it just wasn’t for us. After that, we called it a night and went back to the hotel after our long, busy day.
I’ll keep recapping each day of our trip, so keep checking back!
